Wenonah Lake, Kiddie Pool
Alex Pozza shared these comments from Lauren Ward Larsen about the Wenonah Lake
During the summer of 1968 the fence around the kiddie pool did not look like the fence in this photo.
"After my father passed away suddenly in a small plane crash in 1968, that lake saved my mom's ass. She had no job outside the home, where she cared for my 3 sibs and I, no college degree, no marketable skills, no trust fund. So she took in other people's kids over the summer and pile about 10 of us into the back of her Morris Minor car and drive us the 5-6 blocks to the Wenonah lake, where we'd spend the day in and out of the water, covered in cedar, sometimes taking swim lessons from Dan Gayton (sp), and using the woods as a restroom if needed. Ahhh, the good old days. Suffice to say, that lake played a huge role in my childhood
The July 4th parade aside, my time spent at the lake was the most memorable experience of my life growing up in Wenonah.
(I've also never forgiven Rhoda Thompson-Yeager for kicking my ass in the Dead Man's Float competition when Iwas 5 YO; she was a badass even when she was 4 YO)"
