Once a teacher at Wenonah Elementary, then Gateway Regional High School, and on to Pitman, and Gloucester County Community College.

So sorry to hear about the passing of our Wenonah teacher, Ed Campbell. He and his wife Georgia taught 5th and 6th grades when I was his student.

I talked to Mr. Campbell about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I wanted to tell how much I respected and liked him, even though I never had him for a teacher. I told him we thought he was "cool" -a VERY high honor in 1962. And I wanted to tell him something that I remembered he said on Nov. 22, 1963. As I passed him in the hall that day, he said "Now he's a martyr." We had a good half hour conversation. It was one of the best phone conversations I ever had in my life. After not having any contact with him in over 40 years, I had this urge to call and I sure am glad I did. Mr. Campbell was a great man. I also got the chance to tell him how much us 6th graders appreciated how hard he could fire a football when we were on the playground. He was a "man's man".

You're right Kurt - you didn't know what a "bullet pass" was until you tried to catch one fired at you by Mr. Campbell.

The passes were fast -- but most of them weren't aimed at your solar plexus -- which is where he used to say a good bullet pass should hit.

Ed Campbell made school fun which was unheard of back in those days. The 6th grade students wanted to go to school because he was their teacher. Very enthusiastic about teaching.
